THE PEACOCK - "NEW BEGINNINGS"

The Peacock, formally named “New Beginnings”, is the senior show piece I created for my studies at Northern Michigan University. Standing at 5’ tall, this metal peacock made from a welded steel armature, armored in triangles of aluminum flashing, stainless steel kitchenware, beads, and braided auxiliary wire. After 3 months and about 130 hours of work, it was completed in May of 2015.

The symbol of a peacock is one of self-expression, immortality, integrity, beauty, and renewal. I channel these qualities with materials that withstand the test of time, metal items that have been discarded and unused, given new life through a reinterpretation of both form and function; a new beginning.

In September 2015, I entered ArtPrize 7 in Grand Rapids, MI, one of the largest art competitions in the world. The Peacock soared to the top 25 in the 3-D category, though fell short of winning the grand prize.

It is now searching for a forever home, where it can sparkle in the sun and be enjoyed for years to come. Please contact me for pricing and serious inquires.
